From Workshop to Special Issue: Machine Learning and Big Data in Economic History

In February 2026, Felix Selgert (University of Bonn) and I organised a workshop on Machine Learning and Big Data in Economic History. The workshop brought together researchers using machine learning, large language models, novel historical data sources, and other computational approaches to address questions in economic history.

The papers emerging from the workshop have now been completed and will appear in a special issue of the Jahrbuch für Wirtschaftsgeschichte / Economic History Yearbook (1/2027). Stay tuned!
